Biography
Gustavo Milano, born on February 11, 1961, in Rosario, Argentina, is a former rugby union player, coach, sports manager, and agent. Standing at 195 cm and weighing 105 kg, Milano primarily played as a lock. He made his mark on the international rugby scene representing both Argentina and Italy. His rugby journey began with JC Rosario, where he quickly established himself as a key player. Milano debuted with the Argentina national team, the Pumas, in 1982 during a test match against France in Toulouse. He played an essential role in Argentina’s victories in the South American Rugby Championship in 1985 and 1987 and participated in the 1987 Rugby World Cup, playing in the match against Fiji.
In 1989, Milano moved to Italy to play for San Donà, a decision that led to his exclusion from the Argentine national team, as was customary for players moving abroad at that time. Later, he joined Milan Rugby, where he enjoyed a successful career, winning three Italian Championships and a Coppa Italia. Milano also served as a player-coach, leading Milan to the Italian Championship finals in 1994 and eventually transitioning into a full-time coaching role before retiring in 1996.
Post-retirement, Milano continued to contribute to rugby as a coach, player agent, and sports executive. Since 2002, he has been involved in developing coaching techniques for the Unión Argentina de Rugby and has held various positions within the federation.
