Megan Elizabeth Jones MBE, born on 23 October 1996 in Cardiff, Wales, is one of England’s most versatile rugby stars. Equally effective at fly-half or centre, she has enjoyed success in both the 15-a-side and sevens versions of the game, representing England and Great Britain on some of rugby’s biggest stages.
After making her England debut in 2015, Jones quickly established herself as an exciting attacking player with the ability to influence matches through her creativity and skill. Her career has included Rugby World Cup finals, Olympic appearances, Commonwealth and European Games medals, and successful spells with several leading Premiership clubs.
In 2025, she joined Ealing Trailfinders, continuing a professional career that has seen her become one of England’s most experienced backs.

3) Rugby World Cups Played
Megan Jones has represented England at the following Rugby World Cup tournaments:
- 2017 Rugby World Cup – Won the silver medal, scoring England’s opening try of the tournament against Spain and starting in the final.
- 2025 Rugby World Cup – Selected for England’s squad as the Red Roses won the World Cup title and claimed the gold medal.
4) Key Career Moments
Jones made her England XVs debut in July 2015 against New Zealand during the Rugby Super Series before featuring later that year in England’s victory over Canada.
She travelled to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro as a non-playing reserve for Team GB Sevens, gaining valuable experience on the Olympic stage.
At the 2017 Rugby World Cup in Ireland, Jones announced herself on the world stage by scoring England’s opening try against Spain. She also played in the semi-final against France and started in the World Cup final, where England finished as runners-up.
Later in 2017, she committed full-time to the England Sevens programme, remaining involved until the programme was discontinued in 2020.
Jones returned to the England XVs setup in 2021, featuring as an invitational player during the Women’s Six Nations Championship.
Her sevens career also brought international success. She helped England win a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, represented Great Britain at the Tokyo Olympics, earned a gold medal at the 2023 European Games in Kraków–Małopolska, and competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Great Britain finished seventh.
At club level, Jones played for Bristol Bears Women, Wasps Ladies, and Leicester Tigers before joining Ealing Trailfinders ahead of the 2025–26 season.
In 2025, she was selected for both the Women’s Six Nations Championship and England’s victorious Rugby World Cup campaign, adding the title of World Champion to her impressive rugby résumé.
5) Personal Life
Born in Cardiff to an English mother and Welsh father, Jones is bilingual in Welsh and English. She started playing rugby at the age of six with Glamorgan Wanderers before moving to England at 16 to continue her rugby development at Hartpury College.
She later graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc (Honours) in Sport Science and Management.
During the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, Jones provided free online fitness sessions for children and also coached Barnes Women after being made redundant following the closure of the England Sevens programme.
Jones is openly lesbian and is in a relationship with fellow England Sevens and former Leicester Tigers teammate Celia Quansah. The pair proudly represented Great Britain together at the Tokyo Olympics.
