Welsh rugby is celebrating the return of one of its brightest stars. Louis Rees-Zammit, after 18 months away pursuing a career in American football, has pulled on the Wales jersey once again — impressing in his comeback match against Argentina. His return to the red shirt has injected fresh excitement and optimism into a team undergoing a generational rebuild.
Born in Penarth in 2001, Rees-Zammit made his professional debut for Gloucester at just 18 and quickly established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young players. In 2024, he made the bold decision to switch codes, joining the NFL International Player Pathway Program and later signing with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars. However, after his brief American football adventure, he admitted he “missed rugby too much.”
In August 2025, he signed for the Bristol Bears, marking his return to Premiership Rugby. Just months later, his performances earned him a recall to the Wales national team, where he showcased his trademark speed and attacking flair against Argentina.
