1. Match Report

Glasgow Warriors continued their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 United Rugby Championship with a convincing 36–19 bonus-point victory over Connacht at Scotstoun Stadium. Franco Smith’s side scored five tries, including four from powerful driving mauls, to overcome a spirited challenge from the Irish province.

Connacht began strongly, dominating territory during the opening exchanges. Their early pressure was rewarded when Sean Jansen crossed from close range in the 15th minute, with Ciarán Frawley converting to give the visitors a 7–0 advantage.

Glasgow responded through their powerful forward pack. Gregor Hiddleston scored from a rolling maul in the 20th minute before Rory Darge added another close-range try shortly after the half-hour mark. George Horne converted Darge’s effort to put the home side ahead 12–7.

The Warriors extended their advantage just before half-time when Hiddleston completed his double from another driving maul. Horne’s conversion established a 19–7 lead at the interval.

Glasgow made a spectacular start to the second half. Dan Lancaster delivered an accurate cross-field kick towards Jamie Dobie, whose clever chip inside allowed Josh McKay to collect and finish an outstanding attacking move. The converted try increased the lead to 26–7.

Connacht refused to surrender. Full-back Josh Ioane scored twice, first in the 47th minute and again as the match approached the final quarter. His second try reduced the deficit to seven points at 26–19, putting the visitors firmly back in contention.

However, Glasgow’s forward dominance eventually proved decisive. Replacement hooker Seb Stephen powered over from another driving maul in the 65th minute, securing the Warriors’ fifth try. Horne converted before Lancaster added a late penalty to complete the 36–19 victory.

Connacht’s disciplinary problems contributed to their difficulties, while Glasgow demonstrated impressive efficiency from attacking lineouts and resilience in defence.
