1. Introduction

The 2024 Men’s Six Nations Championship took place from 2 February to 16 March 2024, once again featuring the national teams of England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales. It was the 130th edition of the tournament in all its formats, and the 25th since the expansion to six nations in 2000.

With the Stade de France preparing for the Paris Olympics, France hosted their home fixtures in alternative venues across the country.

Ireland entered as reigning champions and successfully retained their title—their 16th overall crown—although this time without the Grand Slam. At the bottom end of the table, Wales endured five straight defeats and collected the Wooden Spoon.

2. Tournament Overview

Ireland set the tone with a historic away win in Marseille, showcasing their familiar mix of physical forward play and accuracy in scoring positions. Dan Sheehan emerged as a key try-scorer, backed by a resilient defense.

France displayed flashes of brilliance but also inconsistency and costly red cards. A stunning draw against Italy proved pivotal in the title race.

England showed strong progress under Steve Borthwick, highlighted by a dramatic victory over Ireland sealed with a last-second drop goal from Marcus Smith.

Italy delivered their best Six Nations campaign ever, earning two wins and a draw under new coach Gonzalo Quesada, with star centre Tommaso Menoncello driving their attack.

Scotland produced standout wins—including a fourth consecutive Calcutta Cup triumph—but missed opportunities kept them out of contention.

Wales, in transition and promoting new talent, battled bravely but couldn’t secure a single win.
